Begin Again Meditation Intensive
Beginner’s Mind Retreat at Dharma Center

February 22 – 25, 2018

(Limited to 14 participants)

Experience the community of sangha and make spiritual friends while expanding your awareness during this intimate retreat. This 4-day meditation intensive is limited to 14 participants and will be held at Dharma Center in beautiful San Diego. Both beginners and experienced meditators with a beginners mind are welcome. Learn how to apply the twin practices of meditation and mindfulness to renew your life and Begin Again.



Schedule of Events


 1:30pm – Registration

 2:00pm – 4:00pm Meditation, Mindfulness and Laughter with Turīya
The retreat begins with an introduction to the twin practices of meditation and mindfulness. Powerful meditation techniques and tools for bringing mindfulness into your everyday life will be shared, along with the importance of laughter on the spiritual path. We’ll cover how to meditate, what is mindfulness, and the benefits these practices can have on your life. During each class, we’ll practice meditation together.

4:15pm – 5:30pm Medicine Buddha Self-Healing Guided Meditation with Varada
You’ll be guided through a powerful self-healing meditation to release obstructions at all levels of your being. This robust practice was developed by Varada based on her study of Tibetan Medicine Buddha and Rama Lineage practices.

5:30pm – 7:00pm – DINNER BREAK (on your own)

7:00pm – 8:30pm Expanding Consciousness with Sound and Meditation with Teresa
Learn about selecting music for meditation, and how sound affects our consciousness. Teresa will be your guide through a sound journey designed to uplift and expand your mind.



10am to 12:30pm – Uniting Body & Mind with Martial Arts, Yoga, and Meditation with Hathor
During this workshop with Aikido brown belt and Hatha Yoga teacher Hathor, we’ll explore how Martial Arts and Yoga can enrich your meditation practice. We’ll discover how to develop a beneficial relationship between the mind and the body that cultivates harmony, Present Moment awareness, and a settled centeredness to effectively deal with situations that invoke a stress or fear response. No prior experience of martial arts or yoga is necessary.

12:30pm – 2:00pm – LUNCH BREAK (on your own)

 2:00pm – 3:15pm – Listening to Heart Wisdom with Turīya
This workshop will cover the underlying cause of stress and how to find balance in our fast paced world.  During this session, we’ll learn about becoming friends with your mind and treating yourself with gentleness and compassion. As with all the workshops, we will also continue our meditation practice.

(20 minute break)

 3:35pm to 5:00pm – Managing Your Energy & Places of Power with Turīya
The successful integration of new levels of awareness requires power. We’ll explore the ways we can be drained and how to slow and finally stop unnecessary energy loss. The subtle body and the impact the unseen world has on us will be discussed, as well as ways to care for and strengthen the non-physical aspects our of being.  We’ll also learn about places of power, their effects upon us, and how to appropriately access the power found in nature to benefit our spiritual growth.

 5:15pm to 5:45pm – Sunset Meditation on the Beach
After the day’s workshops, we’ll head downstairs to the beach for a sunset meditation and practice connecting with this place of power.



10am to 12:30pm – Applying the Practice to Real Life with Turīya
To wrap up the private retreat, we’ll look at bringing all that we’ve learned during the retreat and cover strategies for incorporating the practice into your daily world and relationships.

12:30pm to 1:00pm – Short break to set up for lunch on the patio.

1:00pm to 4:00pm –   Private one-on-one meetings with Turīya to explore any remaining questions or obstacles so you are prepared to continue the practice on your own. (Approximately 10 minutes per person)

12:30pm to 4:00pm – Lunch will be provided and we’ll have a celebration on the patio with time to socialize with new spiritual friends and enjoy the view of the Pacific Ocean and pier … and the clear new view of your mind!



11:00am to 12:05pm – Medicine Buddha Healing Meditation with Varada
Our final class is an encore to help you remember this powerful self-healing technique. During this second chance, you’ll be guided through the Medicine Buddha meditation to release obstructions at all levels of your being. This robust practice was developed by Varada based on her study of the Tibetan Medicine Buddha and Rama Lineage practices.


Pre and Post Retreat Support!

  • In addition to the one on one attention and small classes during the Begin Again Meditation Intensive Retreat, you will receive links to pre-retreat talks and videos to listen to on your own.


  • Also in your welcome email, you’ll find a new student packet, filled with information about meditation, Dharma Center, and recommended books, movies, and meditation music.


  • To help keep you inspired before and after the Retreat, you will receive admission to a secret Facebook group, Unreasonable Joy, where you’ll be able to share your spiritual adventures and interact with others who seek Joy and inner peace. Instructions on how to join the Facebook group will be sent via email.


Tuition for this retreat will be used to help fund Dharma Center’s mission to provided meditation and mindfulness classes to the public.

San Diego is beautiful in February! While most of the country is shivering, we enjoy mild temperatures in the mid-60’s, with the occasional heat wave into the 70’s.
